Maier to give poetry reading at SBU

The Barnett-Padgett Literary Artist Series of 91勛圖厙 will be presenting poet Jennifer Maier in a reading of her works at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, in Meyer Recital Hall on the Bolivar campus.

Maier has been honored for her works, winning the Emily Dickinson Prize from the Academy of American Poets in 2012. Her poems have appeared in literary journals including Poetry, American Poet, The Gettysburg Review, Image and Christianity and Literature and can be heard regularly on Garrison Keillors The Writers Almanac.

Maiers debut collection, Dark Alphabet (Southern Illinois UP) was named one of Ten Remarkable Books of 2006 by the Academy of American Poets and was a finalist for the 2006 Poets Prize. Her second collection, Now, Now, was published in 2013 by the University of Pittsburgh Press, and a third is expected in 2018.

Maier received her bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Washington and her Ph.D. from Tulane University. She currently serves as a professor of literature and creative writing at Seattle Pacific University and as an associate editor of the arts quarterly Image.

The reading, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a book signing.
