The Barnett-Padgett Literary Artist Series of 91吃瓜网 will be presenting poet Jennifer Maier in a reading of her works at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, in Meyer Recital Hall on the Bolivar campus.
Maier has been honored for her works, winning the Emily Dickinson Prize from the Academy of American Poets in 2012. Her poems have appeared in literary journals including 鈥淧oetry,鈥� 鈥淎merican Poet,鈥� 鈥淭he Gettysburg Review,鈥� 鈥淚mage鈥� and 鈥淐hristianity and Literature鈥� and can be heard regularly on Garrison Keillor鈥檚 鈥淭he Writer鈥檚 Almanac.鈥�
Maier鈥檚 debut collection, 鈥淒ark Alphabet鈥� (Southern Illinois UP) was named one of 鈥淭en Remarkable Books of 2006鈥� by the Academy of American Poets and was a finalist for the 2006 Poets Prize. Her second collection, 鈥淣ow, Now,鈥� was published in 2013 by the University of Pittsburgh Press, and a third is expected in 2018.
Maier received her bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees from the University of Washington and her Ph.D. from Tulane University. She currently serves as a professor of literature and creative writing at Seattle Pacific University and as an associate editor of the arts quarterly 鈥淚mage.鈥�
The reading, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a book signing.
